Ear Pain
Ear pain is a top reason for pediatric urgent care visits and a miserable one for adults too. Middle-ear infections, swimmer's ear, and impacted wax present similarly but treat differently — an otoscope exam sorts them in seconds.
What urgent care does
Clinicians examine the canal and eardrum, treat outer-ear (swimmer's ear) infections with drops, manage middle-ear infections with pain control and antibiotics when criteria are met, and remove impacted wax. Not every ear infection needs antibiotics — current pediatric guidance supports watchful waiting for many mild cases, which a clinician can judge properly.
Escalate when
Ear pain comes with high fever and stiff neck, sudden hearing loss, redness and swelling behind the ear pushing it outward (a mastoiditis sign), or facial weakness — those are emergency evaluations.
