Urinary tract infections are among the most common — and most time-sensitive — urgent care visits. On-site urinalysis confirms the diagnosis in minutes and treatment starts the same day, which matters because untreated UTIs can climb toward the kidneys.
The typical visit
Expect a urine dip test (with culture sent out when needed) and, for straightforward cases, a same-day antibiotic prescription. Push fluids, and complete the full course even after symptoms fade.
When it's beyond urgent care
Fever with flank or back pain, shaking chills, vomiting that prevents keeping medication down, or UTI symptoms in pregnancy warrant escalation — kidney involvement is an ER-level concern. Recurrent UTIs deserve a primary-care workup rather than repeated episodic treatment.
